ED notes: Modern composition derived from the use of Strasbourg where it was composed and first published. Rubric: "Incipit cursus b.m.v. iuxta statutum Urbani pape secundi editum in concilio apud Clarummontem celebrato" (most likely a forgery). Same office in The Da Costa Hours in the Pierpont Morgan Library (M.399), illuminated by Simon Bening c.1517, and in the Hours of Albrecht of Brandenburg, likewise illuminated by Simon Bening c.1522-23 (Sold Sotheby's 19 June 2001 Lot 36).
Variants: The traditional lessons at Matins have undergone various new redactions, and are supplied with an unusual rubric: "De sermonibus sancti Augustini" (!).
Other sources: Seelengärtlein, Vienna, Nationalbibliothek Ms. Cod.vind. 2706 (Manuscript copy after a printed edition from 1510, illuminated by the workshop of Alexander Bening). Hortulus Animae, Nurimbergae s.d. (c.1515), Paris EBA Coll. J.Masson, and various other printed editions in Latin from 1498 to 1530.
