ED notes: *The set of lessons at Matins is of a rare composition; Detailed notes from Den Haag KB Ms. 76 F 12 (Hours for the use of Besançon c.1450. In the calendar on May 5th: "La dedicace s. iehan euangeliste")
Variants: Not all manuscripts has 3 prayers at each hour, some have only the collecta, and occasionally the prayer to St. John. The final prayer to St. John is special for Besançon (the patron saint), and substitutes the common general prayer to all saints (Ecclesiam tuam, that only occurs here at Lauds and Vespers); *London BL Harley 2947 has a similar office, but the standard chapter Sicut cynamomum at Compline, and a calendar for Geneva! A newly acquired manuscript book of hours for the use of Besançon in the Bodleian Library in Oxford has also Sicut cynamomum as chapter at Compline (communication from Peter Kidd, May 12th 2000)
